Yale Library Actually, people every entered the library, all is a worship of human civilization artifacts. And entered the library’s everyone, all is to acquire knowledge and wisdom for giving comfort. Also every time reading books should be a spiritual baptism. In the visitors center of the Yale in the United States, they hosted a tour activity for new visiting scholars. An academician woman brought us into a archway building, and before of it, then she asked, “what does the building look like?” Everyone almost replied with one voice, “church.” Obviously, the answer was able to know in her anticipation. So she introduced very satisfactorily,” the building is indeed like a church, but it is our library.” The library’s appearance is like a church.

Apparently, it is the designer and the constructor’s elaborate work to make the library to a church. Yale is called “the Oxford’s pirate”. In the Oxford campus row upon row of the gothic builds are indeed antique, but they don’t have a long history. In fact, this grandiose, hoary and old library is a new build of the 21 century. The main library is called memorial library of sterling. And it was donated by John William Citrine who was the Yale student of 1864. James Rodgers is the designer and

the graduate of Yale. The library had experienced a long time to design and construction, and it was completely built until in 1930. There are two holes at entrance of the Yale library. The door is made of the oak and it has been bronze. On the lintel, there is a stone carving symbolizing the ancient civilization. It is a middle ages of philosopher, he spread out his hands, and point to the two entrances. The Phoenician warship symbolizes the ancient Egypt civilization, and an animal with wings symbolizes the ancient Babylon civilization at one side. The other side, a snake symbolizes the Maya civilization, and a Roman Wolfe symbolizes European civilization and the Athens owl.

There are many varies writing motto. They are the words of respectively Cro-Magnon,ancient Egypt, Babylon, Hebrew, Arabia, ancient Greek , China and Maya. These oblong stones are like the unfolded papers, spreading slips of bamboo for writing and the handing over the card. Above of them reminded people entering the door. It is the Temple of the God of the civilization, and the treasure-house of all the words and culture. On rocky wall on the other side of the gate carved a sentence which is "Library is the heart of a university". The words were said by Osler "Father of modern medicine "Sterling Memorial Library was located in the center of Yale University. Library of every major discipline, it is also the core of the branch campus. There are totally twenty libraries in the Yale. And every subject has its own independent library, such as, mathematics, medicine, chemistry, physics, law, theology, engineering, forestry, geology and so on. Expect that there are some "typical library". Yale Library collect about 12,500,000 books rank second in the world university library. It was said that if rank the bookshelves of the 15 floors in a row, the length will be reach 128 kilometers and will from New Haven where Yale located to New York City.

Service is a modernization. The library’s architectural form of Yale is archaized” Modern gothic”, even though the new music library, the curve form beams and skylights also reflect some combination of classic and modern architectural style. However, the technical and service in Yale’s library is very modern. The On-line roll call system ORBIS in Yale’s library put in to use in 2002, allegedly, 98% of collection resources can be searched through the

internet. The author input Joseph Brodsky random, there’re 524 search results after one or two seconds later. The author searches the information of Joseph Brodsky in many large-scale libraries all over the world. But he never searched so many booklist. This can reflect that book recourses are really huge. Each bibliography is accompanied by the detailed the translator, press, version, in library information such as position and borrowing. The readers can send the information to any emails through this system. Although no one checked the rows of card, it is said that they will be as historical witness and always keep in place. The facilities of the library are not only traditional but also modern. It is heavy oak bookshelf, wide leather sofa, Antique similar standing lamp, and the ubiquity of marble reliefs. It seemed like to let people living in historical corridor and people will have modern flavor because of the comfortable air-conditioning and lighting equipment.
