耶鲁的图书馆 当人们每一次走进图书馆，其实都是在朝拜人类文明的遗产；走进图书馆的每一个人，其实都是为了获得知识和智慧赐予的慰藉；而每一次阅读，都应该是一次精神的洗礼！
在美国耶鲁大学访客中心为新来的访问学者举办的校园游中，一位女大学生把我们领到一幢拱门建筑前，然后问道：“大家看这幢楼像什么？”大家几乎异口同声地答道：“教堂。”这个回答显然早在她的意料之中，于是她颇为得意地介绍：“这座楼的确像教堂，但它是我们的图书馆。” 图书馆外形像教堂 把图书馆盖成教堂模样，显然是设计者和建造者的得意之作。耶鲁被称为“牛津的翻版”，校园里鳞次栉比的哥特式建筑的确像牛津的建筑一样古色古香，但它们的历史大多不长。这座看似雄浑沧桑的图书馆，其实是 20 世纪的新建筑。这座主图书馆全称为“斯特林纪念图书馆”，是由耶鲁 1864 年级学生约翰·威廉·斯特林捐资建造的，设计者詹姆斯·罗杰斯也是耶鲁毕业生。图书馆的设计和建造经历了一个漫长的过程，直到 1930 年才完全建成。
